iO2 Rectangle Pendant

A handmade rectangular plywood pendant, designed and crafted in New Zealand by Mat MacMillan in Tauranga.

The iO2 is the architectural evolution of the original iO range Mat conceived in 2014. Where the original iO is built around cylindrical and column forms, the iO2 takes the same craft language — closely spaced vertical NZ plywood slats, Japanese Shoji paper diffuser inside — and applies it to a rectangular form. Straight and corner sections jigsaw together to arrive at an unlimited array of square or rectangular configurations, which means the iO2 can scale from a single small pendant to substantial architectural feature lighting.

When lit, warm light filters through the closely-spaced timber slats on all four sides, creating a soft, even glow with the rich natural texture of NZ plywood. The visual effect is calm and architectural — a quiet sculptural presence whether the light is on or off.

Available in two standard sizes:

• 800mm long × 300mm high × 300mm wide
• 1060mm long × 300mm high × 300mm wide

The rectangular form is designed to follow the surface beneath it — a long dining table, a kitchen island bench, an open-plan living space. It works as a single statement piece, or in pairs across larger zones.

Each shade is supplied complete with hanging hardware — two Lockie E27 pendant sets (aluminium lamp holders, 2.5m textile cords, iron ceiling roses) in your choice of black or white. The two-point suspension is required to hang the rectangle level; spacing is 360mm for the 800mm shade, 500mm for the 1060mm shade.

This is a made-to-order piece. Allow 6-8 weeks from order to dispatch. Choose:

• Shade finish — natural plywood, or with black tips/edges for a more graphic contrast (a 10% premium reflecting the additional finishing work)
• Hardware finish — black or white pendant sets
